The government will collapse if it fails to take care the four main aspects which come under the “people’s economy”, warned Umno vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani.

Johari, who represented BN at the People's Talk held in conjunction with the Unity Government Convention 2023 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today, said that there are close ties between the people's economy and national economy.

"The people's economy, we must know what the people want. Whoever forms the government, if they fail to address the four main things the people want, they will not last.

"First, food. We must ensure there is enough food supply, set-up food banks [...] we can't continue to face situations like shortage of chicken, shortage of eggs," he said.

"Secondly, quality education. The people want to see how far the government is raising the quality of education.

"Third, job opportunities. No point in graduating from university without a job. And fourth, housing. It is the government's duty to provide housing for the lowest income earners," he stressed.

Johari, a former second finance minister, also said the government must have the means to attract investors if it wishes to remain in power.

Further, he said the people are also evaluating the government's ability and collective experience to lead the country.

Johari noted that a government capable of achieving political stability and economic prosperity will be able to provide the people with their needs.

"People's economy and the national economy are closely linked. A government must also be able to bring stability to the country.

"A government must have credibility in the eyes of the people and be competent with experience to administer the country," the Titiwangsa MP said.

The Unity Government Convention 2023 gathered leaders and members from all parties in government for discussion towards setting aside their years of political rivalries.
